History

Kempen Paint was founded in 1960 by Ed Kempen,
previously president of another prominent coatings manufacturer.

During these early years, the focus was primarily on manufacturing coatings for specialized industries -- metal fabricators, shoes, hats, and toys. As the corporation grew, the types of coatings diversified and the generation of our own product line increased. A sales force was established for regional marketing during these years while rolling for other companies increased dramatically as well.

Capability tripled from 1986-1988 with the addition of two production facilities on site. These years saw a complete modernization of our facility including universal color matching software and computers; automation of manufacturing equipment, bulk storage, laboratory testing and research instruments, and upgraded computer assisted formulatory software.
